CSA

The CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farming model establishes a direct connection between a local farm and CSA members.  When you purchase a share from us you are not only signing up for a box of fresh, local vegetables delivered each week, but you also become our partner and an integral part of our farming community. Our 16 week CSA season starts in June and goes until mid-September. Each box contains approximately 9 different types of vegetables- washed, packed with care and ready for you to pick up in a convenient local location.  We also send out a weekly newsletter that includes prep ideas, recipes, farm updates and vegetable care information.  In addition to the weekly veggie pick-ups, we host events at the farm throughout the summer.

THE LITTLE BIG SKY CSA BOX

We offer one full share size box.*  The full share is enough vegetables to feed a family of four or a couple with a robust plant-based diet. We strive to create a box with both variety and quantity. We aim to create a weekly box containing not only the exciting seasonal vegetables such as snap peas, green beans, broccoli, sweet peppers, and heirloom tomatoes,  but also at least one type of salad green (i.e. salad mix, head lettuce, arugula, spinach), one leafy green (usually chard or kale),  an herb (i.e. parsley, cilantro, dill, and/or basil) and a root vegetable (i.e. radish, carrot, beet, turnip).  We’ve built the belief over the years of CSA farming that more quantity and slightly less variety is preferable.  In other words, we believe having larger quantities of fewer vegetables is more manageable and realistic in a kitchen than having smaller amounts of say, 16 different vegetables each week.  Recipes, larger meals, and refrigerator organization come easier this way.

*If you are looking to be a part of our CSA but truly need less veggies in a CSA box, please look to partner with someone and either share the box, or set up every other week pick up with a friend. This creates a lot of ease for delivery of the boxes and cuts out the additional half share delivery costs. If you cannot find someone to partner with, email us and we’ll figure something out! …I bet your neighbor is interested though.

A typical early season box contains an assortment of “spring” vegetables such as, lettuce and greens, radishes, sugar snap peas, turnips, green onions, and kohlrabi.  As the summer takes off, a typical mid-season box  contains tomatoes, cucumber, cabbage, salad mix, green beans, carrots, lettuce, zuchini, onions, summer squash and kale.  A typical late-season box contains lettuce, salad mix, an assortment of peppers, chard, kale, yellow onions, cherry tomatoes, tomatoes, carrots, radishes, and spinach.

Each farming season is unique.  Temperatures, rainfall and insect and wildlife pressure all present challenges that vary from year to year.  We are invested in infrastructure such as our greenhouse, deer fencing, row cover and irrigation to allow us to provide a consistent, quality harvest in the face of these challenging variables.  CSA members provide stability to farmers by sharing this risk. Our goal with each week's box is to exceed your expectations!  In becoming a member it is important to note the risk as well as all of the benefits of membership.

WORK SHARE

*** the work share program is full for the 2024 season***

Become a working share member of Little Big Sky Farm and enjoy a reduced price for your CSA.

Working on the farm provides a great way to be more deeply involved in the farm community and to learn, hands-on, how your food is grown and brought to community members each week. We have grown to understand that a robust and dedicated work share crew is integral to the overall success of the farm. We love our work share members, and look forward to each shift! Working share shifts are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:30am-11:30am May-September.

  • Commit to 15 shifts and take $675 off of your CSA share cost

  • Commit to 10 shifts and take $450 off of your CSA share cost

  • Commit to 5 shifts and take $225 off of your CSA share cost

Please note on your registration form if you are interested in a working share and we will be in touch.  Requirements to be a working share member include a positive attitude, willingness to work hard in various weather conditions, and an openness to learning new skills.  The expectations of working share members is that you will be able to work hard for the full 3 hours, therefore we discourage bringing children under the age of 12. Work share members must be at least sixteen years of age. If something unexpected comes up and you cannot fulfill your work share commitment, we will invoice you for the remainder of the shifts. We depend on work share! Please only sign up if you are serious about fulfilling the commitment.
